Teacher Training in Environmental Education in the Region of Murcia: A Quantitative Analysis for Sustainability in the Classroom
Keywords:

This study examines the perceptions of early childhood education teachers in the Region of Murcia regarding their training in environmental education and the integration of sustainability into the school curriculum. Using a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional design, a structured Likert-scale questionnaire was administered to teachers from various educational centers. The findings reveal that, although most participants acknowledge the importance of environmental education in fostering ecological awareness from an early age, there is a significant lack of initial and ongoing training in this field. Additionally, barriers were identified related to insufficient resources, limited curriculum time, and a lack of familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These results highlight the urgent need to strengthen teacher training through specific programs and to promote the transversal integration of sustainability into educational practice. In conclusion, environmental education in early childhood is an essential tool for shaping environmentally responsible citizens; however, its effective implementation requires greater institutional support, adequate resources, and continuous professional development for teachers.
